Wondering If Your A/C Will Last The Summer? Here’s Our Advice

Summer will be here before you know it, and you may be wondering if your air conditioning will last through one more season, especially if it is getting up in age.

Like any other equipment or appliance you use in your home, your cooling system suffers from wear and tear.   Over the years, you may find that it doesn’t seem to be cooling as well as it once did or that there are “hot spots” in the house.

Here are a few tips to help you determine if your air conditioning will last through the summer:

  • If your energy bill seems to be increasing and your system needs repairs frequently, it may have become less efficient than it once was.
  • Excessive humidity in your home during summer months can indicate leaky ductwork or inferior equipment operation.
  • If your unit is more than 10 years old, it’s probably less efficient than it used to be, meaning higher energy costs.   Energy Star-approved units will help you save up to 20 percent on cooling costs this summer.
  • Temperatures in your home don’t seem consistent.   Hot spots when your A/C is running can indicate duct problems or improper equipment operation.
  • If your air conditioning  unit is making strange noises or is louder than it used to be, there are several causes.   You should have your system checked out to determine the problem.

Nobody wants to start out the summer months by finding out that their cooling system is no longer able to do the job.   Don’t wait until summer months   to learn that your system needs to be replaced.
