Get Set For Winter With A Heating Tune-Up

Heating Maintenance is Best Done Before Cold Days Arrive

Though winter is still far from the minds of Long Islanders, now’s a great time to start thinking about a heating tune-up. Reliable and properly trained technicians get booked up for the season months in advance, so it makes sense to schedule a thorough inspection of your heating system now to make sure it’ll be ready for continuous operation when winter finally arrives. Keep in mind that furnaces are like cars and, regardless of age, they need regularly scheduled tune-ups in order to function efficiently.

A proper inspection should include the following tasks:

  • Have your heat exchanger checked for cracks, as not only will a damaged one perform poorly, but there is also a major risk of carbon monoxide emissions, which may be lethal.
  • Check that you have no damaged or loose wires anywhere, as these can cause system failure and pose a fire hazard.
  • Inspect the burner to make sure it is functioning properly; a faulty burner both wastes energy and costs you money, but it may also leave you without heat when you least expect it.
  • Verify that your thermostat is properly calibrated, as a malfunctioning thermostat may not read your home’s temperature correctly, causing your furnace to cycle on and off frequently and consume more energy to operate. In addition, an improperly calibrated thermostat leads to temperature fluctuations in the home.

These are by no means all the services your system will receive from a heating tune-up, but they are some of the most critical. At  T.F.
